Warm and Spicy Chai Tea

Here is the recipe for the sweet and spicy chai tea that was served at our first annual Goodies for a Good Cause.

2 cups water
1 – 3 inch piece of fresh ginger root, cut into thin rounds
2 cinnamon sticks
10 cloves
6 cardamon pods
1 – 6 inch vanilla bean pod, cut into 1 inch pieces
4 rooibos tea bags
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
4 cups almond milk
1/4 cup agave nectar, or to taste
 
Combine first 6  ingredients in medium saucepan and bring to boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low, partially cover pan, and simmer gently 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Add tea bags and rest of spices and let steep for 5 minutes. Discard tea bags. Add milk and agave nectar. Bring tea just to simmer over high heat, for another 5 minutes Strain chai into teapot and serve hot.Note: The chai tea can also be store in the fridge for a later date, to either enjoy warm or cold.
